The Start
JCDB is led by designer and builder, Jacob Chavez. Jacob obtained a professional degree in architecture from the University of Oregon in 2001. After a decade of experience working for some of the best architects in Portland, Reno and Southern Oregon, Jacob took an interest in building science and became a Certified Building Analyst in 2008. After this transition into home performance, Jacob began to be noticed by architects and homeowners as path to realize their remodeling plans. Jacob worked with the local legend, Bill Hawkins, and to remodel several homes in the Vista Hills.
The Transition
Jacob’s architecture background laid a strong foundation for his design build construction company. Transitioning to construction posed challenges initially, but Jacob’s hands-on experience and passion proved invaluable. To manage evolving complexities, seasoned contractor Barb Goodrich was hired for on-site activities. Our projects are either self-performed or subcontracted, with a focus on selecting the best team based on client goals, timeline, and budget. We nurture relationships with subcontractors while providing in-house carpentry, design, and site supervision. This approach enhances cost and schedule control. Additionally, we’ve bolstered project management capabilities to ensure seamless execution.

If we called or emailed, he got right back to us. Once we finally decided to go forward with the work, they worked from morning to night each day until the job was done. A lot of the work Jacob did himself. We had one large room that never got comfortable in the winter. He rebuilt the whole duct system to that part of the house with larger ducts and less bends.
