Finding us on the Energy Trust of Oregon's website, the home owner originally contacted us to install a hot water heater in his basement.  He quickly realized that we could help him in a big way on a larger project that he was planning.  He was planning to convert his existing garage into an Accessory Dwelling Unit (ADU).  The project was chocked full of complex challenges and the Owner quickly realized that we had the skills to help him work them out.  Though he had hired an architect to design the project, the Owner was impressed by our practical approach at design and ultimately hired us to flesh out the design and build out a large portion of the project.  Since he originally planned on being the General Contractor on the project, we remained flexible and acted as a consultant for the items that he contracted and then utilized our in house craftsman, Dean Hanel, to complete the finer details to ensure that they would be built well and be durable to protect his investment.  We executed several complex details, including design and fabricating meticulously crafted wood staircase built out of reclaimed fir and Brazilian Koa.  The Owner has an eclectic taste, blending modern with the depth of reclaimed wood, which resulted in a staircase full of character.  It was a fun project and we always enjoy exercising our design and craft skills.
